LED has used in automotive lighting for some time, but only two types of vehicles have applied all auto LED lights for the whole car so far. One is Mercedes-Benz CLS, and the other is the recent released new generation Audi A8. According to China automotive manufacturers, domestic sales of Audi A8 generally use xenon headlights, all LED auto lights is en optional equipment. From this we can not help but ask what is on earth the result of the all LED headlight lamp? Which is better between LED auto light and xenon lighting?

Let’s look at the light-emitting principle between car LED lamp and xenon lamp:
LED is a component of solid semiconductor. When these semiconductor materials are electrifying, only parts of the energy will flow through them and the excess energy will release in the form of light, which converts electrical energy directly into light energy.

LED brightness doesn’t directly related to the working voltage, 12V vehicle voltage can completely drive LED to light. When the LED voltage is loaded constantly, the LED is more brightness when the greater the current through it.

HID Xenon lamp consists of starter, electronic ballast and xenon sealed in the glass tube. Excited xenon light emitting need the starter boost the vehicle voltage from 12V to 23000V, then the starter loads the 23000V UHP onto the xenon. In this process, it is easy to produce high voltage ignition and cause a fire once it’s leakage.

From this point of view, using LED auto light is more secure than xenon lamp. Compared the lighting effects of LED auto light with that of xenon lamp, single LED light source is still less brightness than xenon lamp. In the light group of majority cars, LED auto light is only a supporting role of xenon lamp.

However, manufactures tell us that LED auto light can emit different light of color temperature through some special power conversion device. Mercedes-Benz CLS LED daytime running light can transform the color temperature under certain conditions, which can be used as LED fog light.
